Character ideation and sketches #1

For our first iteration, we decided on what characters we wanted in our story. Our group came up with 4 characters, a kid as our protagonist, a rabbit, a cat, and a bear to be supporting characters. Then with the decision of what our characters would be we iterated more to break down the details of each character.
Character ideation and sketches #2
After deciding which character style that matched the theme of our story, we refined each character by adding colour and their respective activities to explore various design combinations and better visualize them in the environment. We also kept the character style consistent to maintain continuity when the main character progresses through the narrative and visits each character.

Space Helmet Kid: Always curious and adventurous. Wants to try new things that they are interested in even if it may involve some risks. They have always had a dream of being an astronaut and going to space to explore the vast universe full of new things.

Rabbit: Rabbit is kind and hardworking. Who likes their job working in a mochi factory. Also like to share mochi as a sign of friendship.

Bear: Bear is a laid back artist who wants to use their skills to improve the community around them, painting bridges to connect the friends on each planet.

Cat: Cat is a competitive and excitable personality who is always about going somewhere fast!
Environment ideation and sketches #1

Our environment is set in a dreamlike, space-themed world with four planets. The main planet, where the journey begins, is home to the main character’s bed. The other three planets are inhabited by playful animals: a rabbit making mochi on the mochi planet, a bear painting on the painting planet, and a cat racing on the racecar planet. Each animal offers the Kid a fun, imaginative task, creating an exciting adventure within this vibrant dream world.

Little Prince: For our precedence, we choose Le Petit Prince for its open environment. Such as the set up of the planets. We thought it would be an interesting world where the audience and our child character can explore. We take inspiration most from the aesthetic of the planets to emulate a dream-like environment.
Pororo: We drew inspiration from the popular South Korean children's show Pororo for our character designs. We used similar proportions to those in the show when creating our characters, as we believe it will make the characters feel more approachable and toy-like for our child audience.
